Religion and Governance.

These two can't be interwoven in any sane society that still intends to grow. Religion is a personal choice and it's never the place of a responsible government to sponsor anyone on pilgrimage or provide a foreign exchange subsidy.

A hungry man won't be thinking of going on some pilgrimage. It's a complete luxury that a responsible government should not get involved aside providing security and making travel documents accessible.

In a country where we have more hungry people than Saudi Arabia and Israel combined, it doesn't make any sense sponsoring citizens with billions of naira.

All these money can be used towards better projects for the benefit of the entire citizens. Good schools, sports centres, tarred roads and the worrisome non-payment of salaries and pensions - all these are paramount issues that require urgent attention!

We are in so much trouble than we think if our leaders or should I say our rulers are this myopic with their thoughts and policies.

So my question? How about citizens that are not religious or into other non-popular religions? Are they not qualified to enjoy some perks from the government too?

A struggling country spending billions in foreign exchange to enrich other already rich countries! I really don't understand?

I repeat! Religion should be separated from governance at both state and federal level. All these billions will build world class hospitals across all these states spending carelessly and frivolously on unnecessary projects.

Why! Why! Why are our leaders doing this to us? We have more religious people in Nigeria than Saudi Arabia, Jerusalem and Rome combined! The earlier we understand that the system is designed to keep enriching these countries in the name of religion the better!

Someday, someone - somewhere will account for all these waste at the expense of nearly 160million innocent citizens whose future is being mortgaged in exchange for NOTHING.

Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria
