YOUR DECISIONS, EITHER PREVIOUS OR ON-GOING = YOUR LIFE PRESENTLY.
Look around you – the bad roads, lack of water supply, dilapidated school buildings, zero neighbourhood security, loss of jobs, unguaranteed salaries and pensions.
All these are as a result of our parents and few of us trading away our votes for peanuts.
Every time you accept that token from any politician, you are simply trading away your social amenities (Roads, electricity, pipe borne water, reliable health system, your security and unfortunately the future of your children.
Of what benefit is accepting rice to vote? Umbrella to vote? Cooking oil to vote? Clothes to vote? All these items are perishable but not physical dividends of democracy.
Budgets over budgets and yet the people are suffering, what exactly is the purpose of a budget if it has no direct impact on the people? I am as confused as you are.
The very moment you accept any form of item, be it money or goods from a politician to vote then what is taking place is called “Trade by barter” – you simply exchanged your loyalty and vote for what you accepted and there and then you lost the right to seek for any support for your community from that politician or political party once they are in office. You simply had a deal and both parties fulfilled theirs.
Your vote is your right; the public officers are working for you and your interest – not the other way round.
Wheel barrows, boreholes, distributing rice and bread are not acceptable in the 21st century – they are nothing but shameful and a disgrace. Let's stop this charade now and ask for better roads, salaries on time, constant electricity, standard classrooms, sports centers for our youths, better policing for our community.
Graduates from our higher institutions year in, year out with no jobs and the government is wondering why there is more crime in our neighbourhood. An idle man is a ready-made instrument for the devil.
Recycling of same politicians from one post to the other must come to an end – It's not working! If you are unable to make an impact on people’s lives as a Governor in your state for 8years then you won't perform any magic as a Senator at the federal level either.
We can do better as a community, it's our community, our home and it's our responsibility collectively to develop it – they don't live among us and they can't understand the pain either.
Stop complaining on the side-line, be part of the change you desire and contribute your own quota.
Together we can.
My People – enough is enough. It’s the 21st century please stop selling your votes. Ask them what they have to offer in terms of governance and not what they have in their pockets. Their rice won't last beyond a week neither would the bread last beyond a day. Help me by helping your children, vote for credible candidates with the interest of the people at heart and not some mega billionaire that is only looking for a name as ex-this or ex-that. I stand with you and I share your pain – enough is enough.
