The Celebration of the new Akarigbo of Remo land – Oba Babatunde Ajayi.

Sagamu town is not only peaceful but accommodating with all sort of people from all over the Country calling the town home. There are many Nigerians from Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Yobe, Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Edo, Kogi e.t.c that were born in this town and knows nowhere else as a home.

Sagamu is one of the rare towns in Nigeria that there are inter-tribe marriages and cohabiting with no issues and both Christians and Muslims live as one in this community.

I attended Muslim High School Sagamu and during my years there, I not only had classmates from far away Ondo, Edo, and Delta but all the way to Kano and Adamawa – we were all friends and nobody was addressed as a Hausa or Ijebu, we were just kids growing and aiming to be educated.

The community where I grew up was not any different, my late grandmother was a staunch Muslim and yet her friends, business partners and tenants cuts across various tribes and their religion affiliation was not a barrier.

Sagamu community presents an opportunity to learn, relate and know about various cultures and traditions without leaving the town. There is rarely any tribe in Nigeria that’s not represented in this community, be it Kalabari, Igala, Ijaw, Tiv, Fulani, Itsekiri or Ikwerre. Sagamu is a typical town and a model town of how a Nigerian community should be.

Only in Sagamu can you have your both Parents from Agenebode in Edo state, they don’t speak Yoruba but all their children not only speak Yoruba but speak fluently in Ijebu Remo and Hausa language. They eat tuwo masara, ikokore, and ebiripo.

This town has produced various illustrious sons and daughters and movers and shakers of the society, ranging from Banking to Sports, from Politics to Engineering and Public service.

The Akarigbo of Remoland is a first class Oba and only a deserving person can ever be considered for the seat. The new Akarigbo is an accomplished Chartered Accountant and a legal practitioner - a people’s person, he is not only well loved in the town but his choice is widely accepted including the Youths of the town.

Remo people are happy with the choice of the seasoned administrator, articulate, educated, well connected and young as their new Akarigbo of Remoland – from all indications, it is obvious that the choice is not only right but the town shall gain more development and recognition with such leadership.

Any leadership or administration, either political or traditional that has the support and approval of the youths is definitely on to a good ride.
