A Case of Pot Calling Kettle Black! The Generals are bored!
It has been in the news recently how General Olusegun Obasanjo and General Ibrahim Babangida wrote letters to General Muhammad Buhari advising him not to contest the next Presidential election.
Even though, I am not a fan of any of these expired Generals. How come they both can’t just pick up their phone and ring the other General for a tete-a-tete? Except if there is something else the people don’t know!
To start with – Both Generals are too morally corrupt to “advise” anyone for that matter, how much more a sitting President!
The same General Babangida that was practically forced out of power, he was on a mission to be a life-president! The only military head of state that used the title of a “President” - No! He wasn’t elected but came into power through a coup! The same General that annulled the freest, fairest and most credible election in the history of this Country. No Nigerian voted based on tribal or religion lines. The NRC candidate for that election never recovered from the colossal loss at the polls!
It is on record Nigeria as a Country earned so much money on oil during his regime. There was a case of a staggering $12.4billion missing during his regime and of course, the case was buried. Just in case many were still young during his days, the corruption and the decay we are experiencing in the society today became legal during his tenure. Many people were killed just to bury secrets. E.g. Late Dele Giwa! The worldwide scam popularly known as 419 became legal during his regime! This nation is still suffering from his maladministration and waste of resources!
Despite all his policies and Maradona antics – he eventually “stepped aside”, which literarily meant that he was planning a come- back, either directly or via a proxy. He intentionally installed his trusted ally in the interim government of Chief Earnest Sonekan, an ambitious and greedy soldier in the person of General Sanni Abacha to take orders from a Civilian who was not even a politician? How smart! The rest is history as Chief Sonekan was lucky to be alive. I am sure the palace coup didn’t last a minute!
General Abacha was too ambitious to play a stooge to someone far away at his hilltop mansion in Minna. The Ray-Ban wearing general wanted to prove he was man enough to rule and wanted a name for himself too – well ask those who were in NADECO and lucky to still be alive! Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a living testimony!
Same Abacha jailed the other General from Abeokuta and the whole world was begging to have his life saved. Abacha was a no-nonsense man – Ken saro-wiwa was not that lucky! Bless his gentle soul!
Thanks to another General in person of Abdulsalami Abubakar who played the chapter one of the script designed by his Minna gap toothed brother, General Babangida by releasing Obasanjo and then on to the second chapter to have him installed as the new President, the plan is to have a trusted General at the helm of affairs, Obasanjo fits right into the script as he was a former Head of state who voluntarily handed over to an elected civilian and of course he is from the south west, the birth place of M.K.O Abiola who was imprisoned by another General and killed for winning an election! The mission is to pacify his kinsmen by installing another Yoruba!
Obasanjo is one of the few lucky Nigerians to have ruled as a Military head of state and later as a Civilian President and those few are just two as the current President was also once a military head of state – the only edge Obasanjo is having is that he nearly lost his life in prison and one would expect such being to be different on escaping death, no baba was worse on his return!
The same Obasanjo who is asking for General Buhari’s “retirement” wasted the state funds on amending the constitution to secure a 3rd term! The “third term agenda” was so popular that many lawmakers became emergency billionaires as cash was flowing at both the upper and lower chambers to make things happen. Of course, it didn’t happen! If there is anything that unites Nigerians, both educated and illiterates then that’s one thing – Corruption and bribery! They took his money and appointments then threw him out.
Baba is a very vindictive person and of course, he won’t leave without a fight! He intentionally and personally handpicked his successor, a man who was sick and unwilling to be the President; he didn’t have the ambition or the will. Obasanjo knew this man was sick and yet forced him on the people and installed G.E.J as his Vice! Umaru Musa Yar’Adua later died – may his gentle soul rest in peace, he was a gentleman and a great leader but was too fragile and too weak to rule.
The third term agenda resulted in what you all witnessed during the G.E.J administration. Obasanjo introduced the use of cash in Ghana must go and in USD to oil, his mission and both the lawmakers, the governors and party leaders were used to it and G.E.J simply continued the status quo he inherited.
He was too weak a leader and too much of a gentleman to change anything and my oga simply left the vault open for all to feed - the likes of Dasuki, Diezani and co were in heaven among the poor, and of course he fell out with the Abeokuta born General as his plan was very different – he planned to rule by proxy, hence he installed a sick leader and a clueless vice with the hope to have their remote control fully charged in Abeokuta.
The same General Obasanjo spent $16billion on electricity project – If Nigeria is a private company and he was the C.E.O, he should be back in jail where he belongs! This general spent 8 good years as a President and nothing was different to previous government or next. If he has the magic wand then he had the opportunity to make a change. He was a major supporter of the current President and a major part of the people that forced a retired analogue general as a leader on a digital populace!
In conclusion – both Obasanjo and Babangida are not upright enough and too morally deficient to make any form of contribution to this nation again. They do not have the interest of this country or its people at heart. ey stand for their own self-gain and nothing else. They both have been a factor in nearly all the governments we have had since independence in one capacity or the other.
Both Generals were chased away from government by the people, they did all they could to stay on illegally but the people had had enough!
If they couldn’t do it as a leader, how come they can now see the light? Until all these Generals leave us alone and stay put in retirement to enjoy their loot then we the people are doomed. For you all supporting one General against the other – just so you know, the military is like a cult, they are loyal to each other and they are only playing games with the people. They definitely know how to reach out to each other and make promises to sort each other out.
Generals that failed to generate power,
Generals that failed to provide security for their people and properties,
Generals that failed to provide general standard education,
Generals that failed to establish working general hospitals,
Generals that failed to provide pipe borne water in general,
Generals that are busy stealing from their people,
The general people are tired of these generals,
Goodbye Generals!
Long live the people in general.
